Franchise Relocation House Rules

If you run a dynasty, you might have the situation where there's one team that is not only doing very, very badly, but which never seems to recover. Hundred-loss season follows hundred-loss season.

The question you might ask yourself is, "Should I relocate the team?" Maybe moving the team to another city will give it a chance to revitalize its fortunes. But what rules should you use to determine which teams get to go and which teams have to say?

CatKnight was kind enough to provide me his house rules for franchise relocation, and I am happy to host them at this link. As soon as I get enough house rules, there will be a link at the left hand side of the page that points you to the "master list" of house rules.

Something interesting, pet:

I took your idea of running this 'rule' through a simmed league's history to see what happened. On a lark I used OOTP and gave it two eight-team leagues from 1901-1925 so far.

One team's moved. One. With no immunity like I suggested in those rules.

OOTP's rules regarding revenue sharing, paying with draft picks for free agents and so forth, seem to keep the league relatively even. There are definite dynasties, but they eventually yield to other teams - and those teams that seem to really suck and be in trouble eventually rise to the top.

In that 25 year history, 14 of 16 clubs have won the Series, and 15 their league pennant.

I'm not sure if this means OOTP's financial system is more or less realistic - but it seems to be more playable. As you know, BM's financial system makes it so that without house rules the larger markets like New York and Los Angeles will eventually dominate.

Interesting.
